The Chinese delegation's OTN/50G PON/FTTR and other technologies achieved milestone progress at the ITU-T SG15 plenary session.

12/13/2023, Optical Fiber Online News, November 20-December 1, 2023, the third plenary session of the 2022-2024 research period of Study Group 15 (SG15) of the International Telecommunication Union Standardization Sector (ITU-T) was held in Geneva, Switzerland. A total of 230 representatives from 17 national members, 38 sector members and 13 sector associate members attended the meeting. A total of nearly 70 experts from 12 member units of the Chinese delegation attended the meeting on the spot and submitted 148 technical proposals, which promoted the deliberation, approval and adoption of 25 standard suggestions and 4 technical supplement documents with Chinese experts as editors. Among the 45 new proposals, china's 32 experts served as editors of 3 new standard recommendations, 18 existing standard recommendations and 6 technical additions.

The Chinese delegation has made important progress in the international standardization of new generation optical transport network (OTN), metro transport network (MTN), 50Gbps passive optical network (PON) and fiber to the room (FTTR). One is to take the lead in promoting the submission and approval of the first batch of standards such as G.709.20 and G.8312.20 in the fine-grained series of standards for optical transmission network (OTN) and metropolitan area transmission network (MTN), marking the milestone progress of the new generation of OTN and MTN international standards promoted by the Chinese delegation after more than two years of difficulties and twists and turns and more than one year of coordination, which is conducive to better supporting the application and promoting the government-quality private network of government enterprise. The second is to promote the promotion, they are G.9941 "High-speed Optical Fiber-based Resident Network Transceiver-Physical Layer Specification" and G.9942 "Optical Fiber-based High-speed Resident Network Transceiver-Data Link Layer Specification", marking the formation of the industry consensus of the first generation of FTTR international standards and entering the mature stage of technical standard development. The third is to take the lead in promoting amendment G.9804.3 2 "50G PON: Physical Media Related (PMD) Specification" to be submitted for approval, focusing on discussing and perfecting the 50G uplink rate optical interface index under the C power budget, and discussing the technical direction of the next generation PON system rate (G.sup.VHSP), which is conducive to supporting the development of China's broadband access network to the era of 10 megabytes optical access network.
In addition, Chinese members have also actively promoted the formulation or revision of important standard proposals such as 400G and 800G wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) systems, optical transmission network (OTN) interfaces, integrated distributed optical fiber sensing, optical fiber and cable infrastructure sharing, submarine optical cable system and testing, high-precision time and frequency synchronization, and intelligent control of transmission network. In particular, the revision of G.709 "OTN Interface" and the G.709.x Flexible OTN(FlexO) interface series standards were submitted for approval after the completion of this meeting. Relevant specifications for 400G and 800G interfaces were added, marking that ITU-T SG15 has basically completed the relevant international standards for 400G and 800G OTN interfaces. The development of ultra -1Tbps OTN interface standards will continue in the future. Chinese members will cooperate to strengthen the promotion of new technical standards.
